The painted board measures 7 1/2 inches by 32 inches, and the metal branch extends 26 inches to the right of it. With dramatic lighting it casts a marvelous shadow on the wall behind it.
Rotulos means “signs” in Spanish. I bought this from a sign painter in Playa del Carmen many years ago, and fewer years ago adorned it with this open-ended phrase I chiseled from recycled zinc with hand-made tools. It marries my passion for hand-painted signs and my practice of poetically deploying a word or words in space, their letters fashioned from all kinds of metal as well as twigs.
